Frozen, Grand Train Trips
The first thing in my email I opened this morning was an email from
Joey La Penna
containing this piece of video. I was barely awake and immediately in awe. It's quite shocking to see how simple actions can have dramatic results, all you have to do is get people to stop and look.
Now the rest of my emails and phone calls from today were definetly NOT worth reliving with a mention, but one email from Joyce Ely-Walker, Dan's mom, was the exception. When Dan was out visiting us this past weekend in what he dubbed "art camp", he suggested I might like the artwork of his mom, an artist and educator in Florida. He shared a quick description of this new series of paintings she had done that referenced the flashing landscapes one sees out the window while taking a train trip. I was intrigued, and reminded him that you never need an excuse to call your mother and when you actually have one you have to call right then. Within minutes, thanks to the internet, she had flooded my inbox with tiny thumbnails of beautiful paintings and I had fallen in love. So, this morning I was also greeted with high-resolution .jpegs of the work, and this is one of my favorites. She's going to send them up in a few weeks, and I can not wait!
