Today is the final day of the "...At Last" exhibit. It's been a GREAT show! I'm sorry to see it go.
But, today at 6:30PM we'll cover the windows and start breaking everything down and get ready to install "How Does Your Garden Grow?" which opens Thursday.

Flowers at the Shop

A photographer from the Morning Call newspaper stopped by the shop today to take some images for an upcoming article in their Sunday magazine. I had visited Terri at Bloomie's Flower Shop in Easton prior to his arrival and got some really wonderful things: bearded iris, daffodils, ranunculus, snapdragons...The perfect SPRING mix!

Try, try again....

So, the Mourning Doves who've been nesting outside my office up in the rafters of the soon-to-be-demolished back porch suffered a terrible loss two days ago when the nest they'd been building was blown from its perch and fell to the ground. There was already one egg in the nest which did not survive the fall.

Anyway, not to be deterred, they were both back to building another nest almost immediately, and this morning it looks like they almost completed Nest 2.0!

Loom at Last

Our dear friends Jeff and Ollie gave me a table loom (with leg extensions so it can also be a free-standing loom) a little over a week ago and I finally put it together. Granted, it still needs to be dusted off and then I have to string the warp, but soon enough I'll be weaving again!!

Poblanos and an Art Walk

Last night for Christopher Lawrence's visit, I made Stuffed Poblano peppers (pictured above prior to being put in the oven), roasted cauliflower, cilantro/lime basmatti rice, and a salad with brune d'hiver lettuce and a curry/roasted red pepper dressing. It was YUMMY. And, the 8 or so margaritas we each drank didn't hurt either.

Off to NYC to give a pro bono publico Chelsea art walk to a large group of Interlochen friends who'll be swarming around Tymn Wallace on the last day of his visit. This is going to be FUN!!!

The First Day

Happy First day of SPRING!!!! YAY!!!!!

Here's a pic of a beautiful work by San Francisco artist Dana Robson entiteld patiently waiting their turn that will be part of the "How Does Your Garden Grow" exhibit opening April 2nd.

It's a fitting piece of art for today since, I think, the waiting is almost over for all of us.
I'm planning on direct sowing some seeds in the garden (peas and lettuce mostly) the middle of next week. I need to get my hands dirty.

Dinner at the Farmhouse

Last night Tymn Wallace took Ron and I out to a truly incredible dinner at The Farmhouse restaurant in Emmaus, PA, which is known for it's delicious cuisine and amazing beer selections. (That's our table in the corner above.) We each ordered seven different samplings of beers, after which and I decided to indulge in a Southern Tier Cuvee from New York that was amazing (and contained 11% alcohol).
They kept giving us these warm, melt in your mouth handmade rolls throughout the evening, but I still had room for a Farm Cheese plate and Seared Sea Scallops (yes, I broke my vegan rule for the night, the food just looked TOO good). Mom and Dad, we HAVE to go here again when you next visit!!! Also, the Chef from the Farmhouse is opening, along with Victory Brewery, a new brewpub on Northampton Street in Easton that's slated to begin service in the Fall of 2009!

Anyway, off to NYC for the day. Going to drop off Tymn at the Metropolitan Museum, run a few work related errands, and pic-up Chris Lawrence who's coming out for a visit until Saturday. Life is good.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

The legendary (around here, at least) Oxalis, passed between friends for over a century and dormant in the basement since late September, decided to re-appear today. It's timing, was perfect as I was in need of a Shamrock, sorta.

Tymn Wallace is here. He arrived yesterday evening around 7pm! So exciting! HOI! We're off to Philly as soon as everyone gets ready. Gonna hit the Mutter Museum for sure.

Seedling Update

The heirloom tomatoes are up (top pic), and the Giant leeks (bottom pic) have sprouted!

Ken Jr.'s Basement Garden Party

We hosted the West Ward community gardeners club at our house today, and what a great time. We devoured donuts from Eaton Bakery Co., talked about all the Community Gardens we're planting in vacant lots, forgotten parks, and around abandoned buildings in Easton this Spring, AND I explained how I grow seeds in the basement. I really enjoyed myself, and as you can see, I dressed for the occasion!!

Future exciting news: Tymn Wallace is coming for a week long visit, split between Easton and NYC, and he arrives tomorrow. Can't wait!!

An Odd Couple

These two Gallery Pets were just completed for a really great client in New Jersey. She already has a bright yellow Squirrel, and wanted us to do these two pieces custom. I love 'em. We also just finished a Gold leafed Raccoon and Squirrel that was such a huge hit this past Saturday at Mercantile Home, that we had to start taking orders!

The Mourning Doves are Back

If you look closely (or click on the image so it opens in a larger format), you'll see that the two mourning doves who nested off my office porch that year were back this morning. I tried to get a closer shot of them prepping their nesting area, but they flew off. I'll try again once they're settled. Anyway, spring is on the way!

The Other Half

We're having an event today at Mercantile Home called "YOUR LUCKY DAY". There's quite a bit of cool new stuff we made for the shop - such as "The Other Half" cards: for those not playing with a full deck. :) We also made bags of Magic Beans (Scarlett Runner Beans flocked with gold powder), Horseshoe Note Cards, and a giant ALL GOOD THINGS bag that will hang in the front window and contains Oscar-like envelopes with free gifts and discounts for people to try their luck. Anyway, the sun is shinning today, and it's supposed to be gorgeous and in the 60's! Hallelujah!!!

The First Sprouts

King Slaw Cabbage seedlings poking their little heads above ground. It's hard to believe that in 7 weeks, these will be mature plants ready for their new home in the back yard garden.

The Teddy and the Snail

I know which one of these guys can run the fastest! Here's Mr. Teddy, who's growing like mad, and a new hot pink Gallery Pet Snail that just came up from the studio. Ron and I are off to NYC today for a very fun and very full work day. The sun is shining, and life is good.

In Like a Lion...

We woke up to a blizzard! Well, not for sure if it's actually a blizzard, but it certainly is a snow storm! The weather men are anticipating 8-12 inches for us today. So, Ron and I are enjoying working from the warmth and comfort of inside today. Granted, it is Monday, which is supposed to be our day off, so the timing couldn't have been more perfect.
